GET OFF MY BACK!!!

TAILGATERS
WAAAY TOO CLOSE

GET OFF MY BACK!!!  Do not invade my space.  I am referring to anyone who thinks it is ok to drive at high speed close behind other drivers.  These tailgaters will approach a car ahead of them on the freeway, expressway, interstate,  or highway and get way too close. Somehow these drivers thinks it is ok to invade my highway space.   It does not matter to this person how fast we are travelling.  I can be going 60, 70, even 80 miles per hour, and this numbskull, as my step father Charles would name them, will still think it is ok to fly up behind me, and get within a single car length behind me, sometimes as close as half a car length.

For anyone who is not aware, the safe distance for travel behind a moving vehicle is to maintain one car length for every ten miles per hour of speed, therefore, a simple math lesson is in order:

If I am traveling at :
10 miles per hour (mph), you should be 1 Average Car Length Distance (ACLD) behind me, no closer.  An average car length is a Malibu or Corolla.

20 (mph), you should be 2 ACLD behind me, no closer.
30 (mph), you should be 3 ACLD behind me, no closer.
40 (mph), you should be 4 ACLD behind me, no closer.
50 (mph), you should be 5 ACLD behind me, no closer.
60 (mph), you should be 6 ACLD behind me, no closer.
70 (mph), you should be 7 ACLD behind me, no closer.
80 (mph), you should be 8 ACLD behind me, no closer.
90 (mph), you should be 9 ACLD behind me, no closer.

What I am saying is that if I am travelling at the posted speed limit of 70 mph, seven cars, bumper to bumper,  should fit between you and me at all times.  You do not have the right to "PUSH" me, that is, to tailgate and try to intimidate me into going faster because you want to go faster.  Safety dictates that you must not get closer to me than seven ACLD.  If you want to tailgate someone, tailgate the State Trooper!!!  GET OFF MY BACK!!!!!!!!
