DO THE MATH
PLANNING = COUNTING THE COSTS
Plans. All of them take time and energy to create and to follow. My daily exercise takes 10 to 15 minutes to complete. Daily Prayer takes one hour. Daily Bible Reading: 8 to 10 minutes, and Bible Study 30 minutes. This adds up to about 2 hours of daily commitment of time and energy. In a week, that's 14 hours, and 728 hours in a year.
Doing the math, my three plans take about 8% of my day.
This is counting the cost in time.
The Bible instructs us to count the cost so we can finish what we start.
Luke 14:28 - 30
For which of you, intending to build a tower, sitteth not
down first, and counteth the cost, whether he have [sufficient] to finish
[it]?
Lest haply, after he hath laid the foundation, and is not
able to finish [it], all that behold [it] begin to mock him,
Saying, This man began to build, and was not able to finish.
Planning is "sitting down" and "counting the
cost". Like so much of life, it is
a math function. Math is intricately
linked to our lives. We use it for our
finances (earning, saving, and spending our money), our health ( the numbers
for blood pressure, weight, blood sugar, cholesterol, etc,.), and for our
travel ( flight times, speed limit signs, our speedometers, miles to our
destination road signs, etc,.) All these
areas of our lives require planning, counting the costs, using math.
None of my plans are set in concrete. They can be changed, adjusted, modified, to
suit my needs. But having a plan gives
me a target to reach for, a goal. Without
a plan, I have failed to count the cost.
